The Rosen Show: Opening Act

Cavaliers vs. Bruins Recap We hold these truths to be self-evident, that when a team’s quarterback has departed in the NFL draft, that when a team has a top-notch defense, that when the team’s running back led the Pac-12 in rushing the previous year with over 1,500 yards, and that when the coach has publicly criticized his own quarterback, the team shall run the ball. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, UCLA head coach Jim Mora seems to suffer from cognitive dissonance as he fully handed over the reins…

Analysis: Orange vs. Blue Spring Game

A frenetic Saturday for Wahoo sports (a 5-2 win over #9 Miami in baseball, a 12-9 come-from-behind win over #14 Georgetown in lacrosse, a track meet, and a 502 victory over the Hokies in women’s tennis) was capped off by Virginia’s spring football game. Despite claims that it was “just another practice” and the efforts to create such an aura, a perceptible intensity pervaded the Carl Smith Center on Saturday evening. F*** the not gay chant!

Nobody who was on the hill during any of the early touchdowns at the most recent home game on Saturday, September 29th against Louisiana Tech could possibly deny the presence of the “not gay” chant issue on Grounds. The chant dominated the singing of the Good Old Song in that area throughout the first half of the game. Although some fans switched to “F*** Tech!” (a supposedly milder brand of immaturity and classlessness) near the end of the second quarter, everyone on…

I Didn’t Get a Harumph Outta That Guy!!!

If you have ever seen Blazing Saddles, then you know of one scene where news of the horror befalling Rock Ridge reaches the governor’s office. The Honorable William J. Le Petomane announces that his office “must do something about this immediately” to a chorus of comedic ‘Harumphs.’ Something similar can be seen in the recent move by Student Council to condemn the words ‘Not Gay’ which are apparently being said during the Good Old Song at football games. The difference between these two…

Game-Changer

The replacement referees who called Monday’s night’s football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks are certainly getting a lot of grief for their call on the last minute “Hail Mary” pass by the Seahawks that won them the game. As I sat on the couch in my friends’ apartment, we lost interest early on in the low-scoring game. We flipped through some channels and returned just in time to see the most scream-worthy finale to a game I’ve…
